Story
- Chandan threads flow with dark purple stripes, alive with ikat motifs in red, yellow, green, and white. The Kotki weave, first rooted in Orissa with its temple borders and geometric precision, travelled into Bengal through artisans and traders. Its sturdier cotton body and bold contrasts set it apart from Tant or Tangail, and its popularity grew as women embraced durable and elegant sarees. Today, Kotki sarees are woven widely across Bengal looms with slight stylistic variations, and has become a living bridge between Orissa’s heritage and Bengal’s artistry.
